Jack Day's Worlds -- -- -- Browningsville Connections
George Walker of Mendelssohn Terrace

Major thanks to my cousin Ruth Zeller for her lifelong interest in genealogy and her thorough collections of important memorabilia, including these photographs.

One of the photos most frequently copied and seen among their descendants is the wedding picture of George Washington Wesley Walker and Rachel Browning Purdum (1835 - 1910).

Another photo of them must have been taken at about the same time.

In 1880, they moved from a log cabin on the property into the new house which was named Mendelssohn Terrace. It is still occupied today by their descendants.

The two pictures above were of Rachel Walker later in life. In the photo on the left, she is standing by the corner of Mendelssohn Terrace.

Rachel's father was John Lewis Purdum.

George and Rachel Walker had over ten children. One them, John Lewis ("John Lute") appears on the farm in the center of this photo, with two of his sons: on the left, Eugene, and on the right, Gwynn.

George Washington Wesley Walker is featured in a Memorial Sermon I preached at a Walker-Scanlon family reunion several years ago.
